Why I Stopped Writing Blogs

I have been a writer for over 30 years. I get paid to do that. I started my blog so I could write what I wanted, not just because someone was paying me. It’s fun and keeps the juices flowing. But blogwise the juices started to dry up.  No one was reading them anymore. When I started my blog I was averaging around ten hits a day. Sometimes as many as two or three hundred. Then it dropped to one or two or zero. There’s an old saying in journalism, ” It doesn’t matter what you say if nobody reads it.

Did Facebook and Twitter kill blogs ? Google that sentence and you’ll find thousands of articles. They had a big impact. Technology changes fast. I am on Facebook for another job and the results have been good so far. A writer needs to know that someone is listening. Otherwise you are whistling in the dark. That gets old fast. I practice my guitar alone but I enjoy playing with my pickin’ pals. It’s a creative outlet. They challenge you. You try harder and play better. That is now missing from blogging.

Will I blog again ? I didn’t think I would but I just did.
